So you have decided you want a website, maybe you have had a quote from a web designer and decided it is too expensive. Well the good news is you can do it for yourself.

You will need the following

1. A computer (well you must have that or you would not have found this).
2. An internet connection
3. A domain name (that is the www bit).
4. Web Space.
5. A software package commonly called a “web authoring software”.
6. A software package to load the web pages to the internet commonly call FTP (file transfer protocol).

It has never been easier to build your own website. Do you need to understand all the technical stuff? Well you do not need to be an expert but it is easier if you have a little understanding how it hangs together. Before you begin, work out what you want to put on your website, and roughly how you want it to look. For your first attempt try and keep it simple. You will also need some web space. Sometimes the company you are renting your internet connection from will give you some free web space, the downside with this free web space is that it will not always get crawled and therefore NOT appear in search engines like Google.
